"Scratch Cat"

January 6, 2008 / by donnaridgway

We went to get a round bale of hay for our donkeys, and while we were at the farm waiting to load the hay, the farm cats gathered around our pickup.

I took this photo of one of the cats.  I liked his soft coloring and the way he was squinting his eyes against the glare of the sun.

I knew someday, I'd want to paint this cat and yesterday was the day I decided he'd have his portrait done.

This is the resulting painting.  I had to laugh while I was working on this, because this cat reminded me Clint Eastwood, saying, "Make My Day!"

Years ago, I babysat for a neighbor.  When she dropped her little girl off at my house one day, I told her, you can pet my new Kitty if you'd like to.  She looked at me so suspiciously and asked, "Is it a "scratch cat"?

I had to laugh.  This cat also reminded me of that day.

Thanks for stopping by to see the scratch cat!  Hope you enjoyed him and he didn't give you any nightmares....

What a great painting you did of him. I love how you capture the color of his eyes and the light reflecting in them.

Very good at catching his expression.  He is one healthy looking cat.

What a fun way to portray the cat.  My mind just don't do things like this.  Sure added interest to his portrait.
